Growing Milk Shed

Increased Cow Population: When it comes to cows, South Dakota is well positioned for the future. In fact, in the last 10 years, South Dakota’s cow population has increased 35.8 percent, making it the leader in the Northern Great Plains.

Increased Milk Production: Major processors continue to make new and continued investments in South Dakota, and as a result, total milk production has increased by 64.2 percent in the last decade. With a goal to double herds and projected production rates, South Dakota has the capacity for additional processing operations.
