Last week, we celebrated the 2nd Annual South Dakota Manufacturing Week. Manufacturers from across the state got on board, and many opened the doors to the public, students, media and service organizations.

Big things are happening in South Dakota. Counterpart, Inc., and Bel both held ribbon cutting ceremonies: Bel on a $144 million, 170,000-square-foot state-of-the-art facility, which is the largest industrial capital expenditure in Bel Group’s history. Counterpart cut ribbon on a 30,000 square foot addition - the company's third since 1996.

Additionally, 3M in Brookings announced the company's plans to invest more than $57 million in its facility, which will create an additonal 60 jobs.

The GOED also ran a series of feature stories highlighting a number of South Dakota manufacturers.

With more than 41,000 manufacturing jobs with a total payroll of $1.8 billion, the impact of South Dakota manufacturers is great. That is why we are going to continue to celebrate their accomplishments, promote their new ventures, and recognize their impact.

Mark your calendars for the 3rd Annual South Dakota Manufacturing Week, which will run from Sept. 29-Oct. 2, 2015.
