This month, students at Minnesota's colleges, universities and technical institutes will get a new look at what South Dakota has to offer when it comes to their careers.

The GOED is partnering with the Department of Labor and Regulation on a workforce development campaign.

"Workforce is a concern that comes up again and again," said Pat Costello, GOED Commissioner. "We thought this was a wonderful opportunity to partner with Labor and present a united South Dakota front."

While labor is promoting its Dakota Roots program at colleges and universities, the GOED took a quality of life approach at 13 of the state's technical universities.

Brooklyn Park, Canby, Detroit Lakes, Eden Prairie, Fergus Falls, Granite Falls, Inver Grove Heights, Jackson, Moorhead, Pipestone, Rosemont, Wadena and Worthington were all handpicked based on their demographics and degree programs. When a prospective South Dakotan goes to or she is taken to a landing page with info on available jobs, recreation opportunities and other South Dakota advantages.

"We are looking forward to seeing the results of this campaign," Costello said. "I'm optimistic that by working together, we can find success."

The Governor's Economic Development Conference, "Partners in Possibilities: Team South Dakota," will take place April 16-17 in Sioux Falls. Kevin Freiberg will deliver the keynote address, “Win Clients for Life.”

GOED Commissioner Pat Costello will also address the changes in state economic development that occured during the 2013 legislative session.

Among the other speakers are: Barbara Rozgonyi, presenting on how to use traditional and social media to promote your community; Ronnie Bryant, presenting on business retention and expansion; and Marty Romitti from the Council for Community and Economic Research.
