GOED Commissioner Pat Costello and Deputy Commissioner Nathan Lukkes have been making the rounds this winter, reaching out to communities across the state and spreading awareness on South Dakota's economic development efforts.

The talks are in conjunction with Community Day at the Legislature, which runs during each legislative session.

"These sessions are really a great opportunity for our office to spread the word on what the state is up to when it comes to economic development," said Costello. "It is also an opportunity for us to hear questions and concerns that groups and individuals across the state may have."

Brookings, Madison, Fort Pierre, Yankton and the Dakota Valley Business Council have all participated. Mitchell and Aberdeen will take part later this month.

After months of preparation, the GOED's website for its partners in economic development,,  launched in January with a fresh look, restructured layout and a renewed focus on quality content.

"This site was made with our local economic developers in mind," said Pat Costello, GOED Commissioner. "We are always looking for ways we can better assist our partners in development, and this site is full of tools to assist community representatives in pitching South Dakota as a business development destination."

The new site provides information that economic developers can share with their boards, as well as training information, co-op opportunities, community development guides and information on new programs such as the Certified Ready Sites program.

"We really hope this is a tool that local economic developers can use to help promote both their communities and the state as a whole," Costello said. "I'd like to encourage each of you to explore the new site and offer any feedback you may have."
