Commissioner Pat Costello

The GOED has taken on a number of new initiatives in 2014, and is encouraging local economic developers to take part and get involved. “Our local partners in economic development play an integral role in advancing South Dakota’s economic development agenda,” said Commissioner Pat Costello. “By becoming involved in the various programs and opportunities we have to offer, communities, regions, and the state as a whole all benefit.”

Among the new ventures are several training opportunities:

The International Economic Development Council’s (IEDC) Basic Economic Development Course will be held in conjunction with the University of Northern Iowa and hosted in Blue Springs, Mo. The GOED recently became a governing member of the Heartland Economic Development Course, Inc. – a non-profit consortium of state development associations. Our involvement with this organization will put the GOED in a position to influence future ED curriculum for ED practitioners throughout the multi-state region.

Matching funds are available to economic development corporations that wish to send a new practitioner to an accredited IEDC Basic Economic Development course. Interested parties are encouraged to apply for up to $1,000 training reimbursement through GOED’sEconomic Development Partnership Program. For a listing of IEDC Basic Economic Development Courses being held across the country in 2014, click here.

Overviews of the GOED and State of South Dakota's efforts are available on a quarterly basis and will serve as an introduction to the economic development landscape in South Dakota. Sessions will be held at the Pierre office. Click here for a list of dates, times and instructions on how to RSVP.
