Groups Collaborate to Expand South Dakota’s Bioscience Industry

Thursday, April 18, 2013

PIERRE, S.D. – South Dakota’s employment numbers in specialized bioscience occupations have increased by more than 65 percent in the last 10 years.

To help continue that trend, Gov. Dennis Daugaard will accompany a South Dakota delegation to Chicago for the BIO International Conference on April 21-25.

“It is important for us to have a strong showing at this convention because it really does pay dividends,” the Governor said. “Last year, I had the privilege of attending the show and meeting with prospects interested in South Dakota. As a result, we are currently working with several companies that are considering expansion of their operations in our state.”

South Dakota’s Bio conference delegation, which will be exhibiting at Booth # 2605, includes representatives from these entities:

- Alumend, Sioux Falls

- Avera Institute for Human Genetics

- Brookings Economic Development Corporation

- Governor’s Office of Economic Development

- Sanford Research and Sanford Applied Biosciences

- Sioux Falls Development Foundation

- South Dakota Biotech Association

- South Dakota Innovation Campus

- South Dakota Innovation Partners

- South Dakota State University

- University of South Dakota

- Vermillion Area Chamber & Development Company

“We expect to have a very productive week,” said Joni Johnson, executive director of the South Dakota Biotech Association. “We plan to come away with new industry insight and contacts, and we hope our economic development leaders will leave with new relationships to help build associations in our state.”
