Watertown to Have a South Dakota Certified Ready Site

Wednesday, February 20, 2013

PIERRE, S.D. – The Pheasant Ridge Industrial Park in Watertown has been approved as a South Dakota Certified Ready Site, announced Pat Costello, Commissioner, Governor’s Office of Economic Development (GOED).

“I couldn’t be more pleased that the Watertown Development Company took the initiative to apply to have a South Dakota Certified Ready Site,” said Costello. “This site will provide prospective buyers with well-packaged information making it easier to pursue development at the Pheasant Ridge Industrial Park.”

The program launched in 2012 and has semi-annual application deadlines of May 1 and Nov. 1.

"We are extremely pleased by the recognition. Our success is the result of efforts from many sectors in the community and the state,” said Craig Atkins, Executive Director, Watertown Development Company. “We are a progressive community that is serious about its economic growth.  Solid economic development efforts such as the site certification for Pheasant Ridge enhances our ability to provide reliable information to site consultants and prospects so they know what they are getting – the site is shovel ready and it provides the data required to help avoid costly issues."

Ryan Boschee, Group President of Great Western Bank in Watertown and co-chair of the H2O-20 vision group for Watertown added, "This is a huge win for the community, and it moves us forward with one of the goals of the H2O-20 vision plan to pursue site certification for primary development opportunities. This was done through a lot of hard work from the Watertown Development Company and from the community.”

"We want to thank the Governor's Office of Economic Development for the certification and putting Watertown in the best position possible to attract prospective businesses in a very competitive market" noted Atkins.

The South Dakota Certified Ready Sites Program is an economic development tool available to all counties, cities, townships, planning districts, business improvement districts and economic development groups.
