Eleven Entities Selected to Join Governor on Spring Trade Mission to China

Wednesday, March 12, 2014

PIERRE, S.D. – Gov. Dennis Daugaard announced today that representatives from eleven entities have been selected to join him and other South Dakota state officials on a trade mission to China May 9-16, 2014.

“Exporting is essential to growing South Dakota’s economy, and the Chinese market offers tremendous opportunities for South Dakota companies,” said Gov. Daugaard. “Each time we go to China, we learn more about how to get our companies in front of buyers.”

The following applicants were selected for the China trade mission:

  • Advanced Sunflower, Huron
  •  Badger State Recovery, Rapid City
  • Concord Grain, Aberdeen
  • Dakota Trim and Steele, Canton
  • Davisco, Lake Norden
  • Hesco, Watertown
  • Muth Electric, Mitchell
  • SDSU International Affairs Outreach, Brookings
  • Sharp Industries/South Dakota Industries, Alexandria
  • Valley Queen Cheese Factory, Inc., Milbank
  • Vern Eide International, Sioux Falls

Each company selected for the trade mission offers an opportunity to increase state exports to China and create jobs in South Dakota.

One company selected to go, Advanced Sunflower, is currently exporting to Naning, China, but hopes this trip will help secure a distributor to grow its market.

“China is becoming a net importer of sunflower seeds and the people there like the quality that comes from the United States,” said Danny Dale, co-owner of Advanced Sunflower. “The opportunity to travel with Gov. Daugaard and other ag companies from South Dakota should be very productive for Advanced Sunflower.”

Selected companies were notified of their acceptance to the trade mission last month.
